Week 1 Journal

Week 1 Journal

Week 1 introduced us to User Experience UX and heuristics evaluation methods by Jakob Nielsen and the videos from Klemmer. I found the information very informative and useful for this course. The videos break down of the 10 steps model of heuristics evaluation. The step that stood out the most to me is The match between system and the real world is a step.  The other nine steps are great but this step can easily be related.
The user experience can make or break it for websites. A lot of websites that makes it big have really great website Apple, Google, and many more. Some companies miss the mark, making it hard for users to use their sites.  Anticipating your user needs is the key to a successful site. This isn’t a simple as it seems, you have to listen to feedback and analyze and develop your site from there. This will be serious of trial and error, you will have to find a way to present your website and a clear and concise manner.  As we rely more and more on computers and the internet to conduct business and to interact The UX industry is becoming more and more important every day.

Two Good Sites
http://www.google.com Google
Google has really been doing a great job on their site. It's a search engine but since they have implemented the interactive moments in history, birthdays, and some holidays its fun to look at and keeps me coming back. Did you know they have

http://www.amazon.com Amazon
A site for great design is Amazon. Amazon did a great job of making their site easy to use. Since Amazon sells almost everything you think the site would be clutter but no they manage to keep all content easy to navigate through, and the recommended items based on what you currently viewing is a time saver and a great money maker from them. Compare to other huge volume sellers (Walmart, eBay, etc) they can take notes on how to organize their sites.

Two Bad Sites

This site needs an overhaul and quickly. The local news channel website is overrun by ads and clutter. It's hard to navigate at times and easy to direct to another site that has nothing to with any kind of news. The website is a prime example of sites that rather make money from malicious ads than content.

This site has a great potential to be a great site, but whoever designed it went a bit overboard. The flow of the website from top to bottom is too busy. It has too much information sometimes and at times, not enough. Its great to the eye but hard to follow. A simple of task of going to find a form or information takes some getting used to. If they cut back on some of the modern design I would easily change my opinion.
